California College San Diego Donates Life-saving Equipment to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center During COVID-19 Crisis
SAN DIEGO—California College San Diego (CCSD) is helping the local San Diego community during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic by donating a ventilator and three BiPAP machines to the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center.
This life-saving equipment will be loaned to the hospital for the foreseeable future. They will be returned to the San Diego campus once the crisis has passed. CCSD and Sharp HealthCare have a longstanding relationship, with CCSD students participating in their clinical rotations at Sharp facilities on a regular basis. The Respiratory Therapy Department Manager at Sharp Chula Vista is also a graduate of California College San Diego.
“When the hospital reached out to us and let us know they could not find anywhere to rent or buy ventilators, we were quick to say, ‘Yes, we can help!’” says Rachel Quinlan, Executive Director of the San Diego and National City campuses of CCSD. “We are honored that we can help save lives during this time of crisis combating COVID-19. We are proud to support our local facilities in any way we can.”
This donation fits in with CCSD’s mission “to help students graduate and get a better job faster.” By assisting the local healthcare facilities, CCSD is able to foster those relationships for their students and graduates in the future.
Respiratory Therapy students at CCSD will still be able to learn vital skills necessary to save lives by using other equipment that is not ready for patient care.
The donation was facilitated by Debbie Rose, the Associate Dean and Director of Respiratory Therapy for California College San Diego, and took place on Wednesday, March 25th.
