Technicians wanted: National career expo comes to Universal Technical Institute’s Mooresville campus

NASCAR Technical Institute MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Jan. 18, 2019 – As the need for skilled workers continues to grow both nationwide and in North Carolina, local high school students and employers came together Thursday night to explore the growing opportunities for transportation technicians. The event was one of 13 career expos held at Universal Technical Institute campuses across the country.

“We are always hiring qualified technicians, and NASCAR Tech is a great place to find good techs,” said Lisa Whitney, corporate ambassador of G&W Equipment, Inc. “We participated in this open house because we want students to know that G&W Equipment is an option for them, and UTI offers the training programs that can lead to rewarding careers with employers like us.”

Event summary

Universal Technical Institute’s Mooresville campus, NASCAR Technical Institute (NASCAR Tech), offered a behind-the-scenes look at the many opportunities available in the skilled trades. NASCAR Tech held an open house and career fair to showcase their curriculum, as well as the local and national demand for transportation technicians. A number of high school students and their families, community members, employers, and those looking to increase their skill set toured NASCAR Tech’s labs and got an up-close look at the latest in automotive technology. Last year, four out of five Universal Technical Institute graduates got jobs in the industry, and many of them benefited from tuition reimbursement programs and other incentives.

NASCAR Technical Institute G&W Equipment, Inc. was just one of eight local companies – including Sonic Automotive, AAA Carolinas, Crown Automotive, Penske Automotive, Ryder Truck Rentals, Asbury Automotive Group, and Crown Lift at the event.

Guests saw live demonstrations of engine power dyno runs and CNC Machining, the vehicles and technology students work on during their training, and they had the opportunity to meet with instructors. At NASCAR Tech, students can study Automotive Technology and CNC Machining, and take advanced courses in NASCAR Technology and Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training including Ford FACT, Mopar TEC, and Nissan NATT. Students can complete their training and be ready to work in as little as nine-to-13 months.
