Pima Medical Institute Hosts Congressman Andy Biggs at Its East Valley Campus

Arizona legislative District Five Congressman Andy Biggs visited Pima Medical Institute’s East Valley Campus November 1. Bill Wiechertjes, Campus Director, facilitated the tour, walking through each classroom to talk with students to experience the hands-on learning provided at the college. Wiechertjes even had his blood drawn by a current student to show the congressman the career-ready abilities being taught.

Pima Medical Institute’s East Valley campus serves the suburban Phoenix areas of Mesa, Gilbert and Apache Junction. Featuring a modern, real-world veterinary lab, the campus offers a Veterinary Technician associate degree program as well as certificate programs in Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant/Nurse Aide, Patient Care Technician, Phlebotomy Technician and Veterinary Assistant.

During the visit students discussed their career fields, goals and what skills they are currently learning. They asked questions of Representative Biggs and there were even some friendly debates about upcoming issues of the election.

“It is always an honor to have our representatives visit our campus and see for themselves the quality training and education we provide,” said Wiechertjes. “It’s important for our lawmakers to get a firsthand look at the level of the education offered here at Pima Medical Institute and we are proud to showcase that whenever we have the opportunity.”

Pima Medical Institute is a private, accredited school dedicated to providing students classroom studies paired with real-world training at medical facilities. Established in 1972, Pima Medical now has more than 120,000 graduates.
