2017 Proprietary Higher Education Review: “It Will Never be ‘The Way We Were’”

While there has been a significant delay of all or part of many Obama-era regulations targeting proprietary schools, it has become clear that things may never return to our misty water-colored memories of the way we were. Signals out of both the Trump administration and the Republican-led Congress point to a future for higher education that will be markedly different from the past.

The 2016 presidential election was the equivalent of a “reboot” of the political landscape and creates an opportunity for a more predictable and prosperous future for the proprietary education sector. While rebooting works surprisingly well to fix problems for technology, the when, the how, and maybe even the why of the fixes for the sector will not be known until well into 2017.
