Applying to college? Check out this ‘Instant Decision Drive-Thru’ – Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
La Roche University event shows how pandemic is reordering college admissions
You can’t get fries and a shake at this drive-thru.
But you can apply to college, be accepted and receive a merit scholarship offer worth thousands of dollars — all without leaving your car, or even turning off the engine.
The college-going world is used to “early decision,” “early action” and even “instant decision,” in which recruiters seeking a leg up in a hyper-competitive market make on-the-spot-offers to qualified students in their high schools or on campus.
But La Roche University will take things a step further Friday and Saturday during a fall admissions season turned upside down by a pandemic.
Behold — the school’s first-ever “Instant Decision Drive-Thru.”
Students and parents can download an application beforehand, fill it out and then bring it with them to campus — or simply roll down their car window and an admission staffer will give them one to complete as they arrive.
