First Class Begins On Friday, October 23rd

Monroe College, a national leader in educating urban and international students, today announced the launch of its new Au Pair Academy to provide special academic and cultural enrichment courses for foreign nationals working as au pairs in the U.S.

While Monroe has a long history of offering continuing education classes and similar programming to au pairs and other non-matriculating students, the new Au Pair Academy will bring together a portfolio of select, affordable classes designed specifically to meet the general needs, interests, and time-constraints of these busy individuals.

Four initial courses, each reflecting 24 or 36 hours of instruction, will be offered virtually through the Au Pair Academy between now and the end of the year. Classes will typically cost less than $300 and be held during weekends and evenings. The first one begins this Friday, October 23rd.

Reservations are now being accepted for the first four classes:

“We are delighted to establish our new Au Pair Academy, which looks to give busy au pairs a chance to terrific American college experience while they earn their required instructional hours,” said Marc Jerome, president of Monroe College.

He added: “With more than 900 international students at Monroe each semester, local au pairs will find they fit right in here, no matter where they call home.”

Monroe hired Dr. Jason Tannenbaum to establish the Academy, create its programming, and oversee its day-to-day operations. He is well-known and respected within the au pair education community, having successfully managed similar programs at other colleges. Au pairs interested in learning more about the Academy can visit Monroe’s website or email Dr. Tannenbaum directly at jtannenbaum@monroecollege.edu.

Non-citizen au pairs working in the U.S. are required to complete a minimum of 72 hours of educational instruction at an accredited institution of higher learning during their year-long assignment as an au pair. Monroe’s new Au Pair Academy courses will help them to meet this responsibility.

Au pairs and others eager to improve their mastery of the English language are also welcomed at Monroe’s English Language Learning Institute (ELLI).
