Biden Unity Task Force: Free College, Student Debt Forgiveness, And Crack Down On For-Profit Colleges – Forbes
Former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders announced six Unity Task Forces in May, shortly after Biden was the presumed Democratic presidential nominee. These task forces were created to cover a variety of policy issues and advise the Democratic National Committee Platform and the presidential candidate. Today, the Biden campaign released those policy recommendations.
In the education world, there were several policy recommendations that covered the entire spectrum of education. They included universal early childhood education, tripled funding for the Title I program for schools serving low-income students, and increased accountability for charter schools. It also makes sure to point to policies that are necessary due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Higher education and student debt seemed to get most of the attention in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary. The same conversations that happened then reappears through the task force’s recommendations.

Quality is also a key component of the recommendations. The task force calls out the Trump administration for letting for-profit colleges “one again prey upon students with impunity by repealing important protections.” The task force promises that Democrats will crack down on for-profit colleges and make them demonstrate their value and effectiveness before becoming eligible for federal student loans.
