Accreditation confirms the College’s commitment to surgical technology educational standards

ROCKFORD, Ill.–Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college, is excited to announce its Rockford, Illinois, campus has earned programmatic accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) for its Surgical Technologist Associate’s degree program.1, 2 Accreditation affirms the College’s commitment to meeting educational standards and signifies the Surgical Technologist program has met or exceeded criteria for educational quality in surgical technology curriculum and that it prepares graduates to work successfully in the profession upon graduation.

“We are committed to delivering quality education across all of our Health Sciences programs,” said Tammy Renner, Rasmussen College Surgical Technologist Department Chair. “Earning CAAHEP accreditation for our Surgical Technologist program at the Rockford campus affirms we are delivering on our responsibility to offer quality education for our students.”

The CAAHEP-Accredited Surgical Technologist Program

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of surgical technologists needed across the country is expected to grow 9 percent by 2028—faster than the average of all other occupations.

Surgical Technologist students at the Rockford campus study and train under industry-experienced instructors to attain the necessary skills to contribute to the success of an operating room team. Students are trained in a hands-on simulated surgical suite. Curriculum is focused on four critical skills areas including: preparing operating rooms, assisting surgeons during surgery, sterilization techniques and compassionate patient care. Students also complete a surgical technologist practicum in real-world healthcare environments.

The program can be completed in as few as 21 months and prepares students for a rewarding career working with medical teams and patients as a surgical technologist—a fast-growing healthcare profession.3

The Surgical Technologist program is also offered with Flex Choice®, which allows students the flexibility to blend traditional online courses with self-directed assessments that provide optional coaching assistance.

“Our communities are in critical need of qualified surgical technologists as the population ages and local hospitals look to grow and expand their services,” said Renner. “We are proud of our CAAHEP accreditation and are excited for our students and community members who will directly benefit from the exceptional healthcare programs we strive to provide every day.”

The Surgical Technologist program at the Romeoville/Joliet, Illinois, campus as well as Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove, Moorhead, and St. Cloud, Minnesota, campuses are also accredited by CAAHEP on the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).
