MIAT College of Technology is expanding the size of its Houston campus in Prologis Park North along Interstate 45 by nearly 40 percent.

The college has signed a 10-year lease for an additional 16,000 square feet adjacent to its current 40,400-square-foot campus at 533 Northpark Central Drive, according to a press release. The expanded 56,400-square-foot campus will add six more classrooms, for a total of 15, plus additional lab space.

Chris Kugle and John Ferruzzo, partners with NAI Partners, represented MIAT College of Technology Houston campus leadership in securing the lease, and Cushman & Wakefield represented the landlord, San Francisco-based Prologis Inc. (NYSE: PLD). The college is in the process of selecting a contractor, and the expansion is expected to be complete by Sept. 1, per the release. Because the school is expanding into existing adjacent space, the project primarily consists of “knocking down a few walls and remodeling,” Kugle noted in the release.

Founded in Michigan in 1969, MIAT — which stands for Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology — has a 125,000-square-foot headquarters facility in Canton, Michigan, near the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. The Houston school opened in 2010 and has been occupying its Prologis Park North campus near George Bush Intercontinental Airport since 2014, per the release.
