Purdue makes its Purdue Global pitch to alumni with free baseball history course – Journal & Courier
On deck March 25, Purdue and Purdue Global teamed on a history of baseball course meant to help alumni and others get grip on the online classroom.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The new course in the Purdue Global lineup on the 150-year history and business of America’s game isn’t, as Purdue history professor Randy Roberts puts it, about “who’s going to win the World Series this year” or whether “so-and-so is paid too much and who’s the best player.”
Still, Rebecca Herman, a graduate business professor for Purdue Global who helped developed the six-week course called “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” with Roberts, couldn’t resist a question about the off-season’s record-setting free agent signings.
In this case about Manny Machado, an infielder whose 10-year, $300 million contract with her beloved San Diego Padres was one of the richest in baseball history. (Outfielder Bryce Harper a week later signed the richest – $330 million over 13 years – with the Philadelphia Phillies.)
