[Bridgeview, IL] Thirty three (33) Northwestern College employees and students participated in the Bridgeview Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Fall 2018 Pen Pal Program. Over the past several months they have exchanged letters with nearly seventy (70) fourth graders at Bridgeview School. Sixteen (16) of the College’s Radiologic Technology students served as pen pals with the children, along with seventeen (17) of the college’s staff and faculty; numerous other Chamber members participated as well.

Several rounds of letters were exchanged over a three month period between the children and the College’s students and employees. The letter exchanges began early this fall and concluded with a pizza party this week on Tuesday, November 27 at Bridgeview School. There, the children finally got to meet their pen pals and share pizza and drinks donated by the Chamber and Walmart. The lunch was enjoyed by all, but not as much as the opportunity for everyone to meet face-to-face with their pen pals!

The Bridgeview Chamber of Commerce and Industry has hosted this Pen Pal exchange for multiple years, with Northwestern College serving as a steady participant. The College students and employees have particularly enjoyed the opportunities to interact with young children, giving them a child’s perspective on numerous points of interest as their letter writing progresses.

Special thanks to Amy Buoscio, one of the Chamber Directors and Career Development Coordinator for Northwestern College, who spearheaded this community service project.
