Community HigherEd Dedicates Lounge Space to Veterans

Tulsa, Oklahoma, December 17th, 2018 – Community HigherEd is working to create veteran lounges. The lounges will be restricted to veteran use only once completed. One lounge can be found on the Community Care College campus and the other can be found at Oklahoma Technical College. While the rooms are ready, both lounges will remain incomplete until they receive furniture donations.

“These lounges are not finished, but it is important that they are there. Veterans need a safe space to retreat to and I am so proud that Community HigherEd understands that. While we are excited about the space, we still do not have enough furniture to fill it. Right now, one of the rooms only has a few table chairs in it. Until we receive some donations, we will just have to fill them as best as we can” said Jeremy Cooper, Campus Director of Oklahoma Technical College.

The lounges may not be finished but Community HigherEd is optimistic that they will be in the next couple of months. Anyone looking to donate furniture to the veteran lounges can contact Leonda Clements, Veteran Coordinator for Community HigherEd.

Earlier this year, the Community HigherEd colleges became the first Purple Heart certified technical colleges in Oklahoma. Additionally, the three colleges now have dedicated parking spots for Purple Heart recipients.

Community HigherEd is devoted to accommodating veterans at all three campuses. Just in the year 2018, the CHE colleges have graduated 37 veterans from their programs. Community HigherEd annually partakes in events to assist veterans around Tulsa. This included Tulsa Stand Down where the students and instructors at Clary Sage College provided 97 free haircuts for veterans. CHE also held a food drive to support the Veteran Pantry at the Coffee Bunker, a non-profit that supports Tulsa veterans.
