Sullivan University laid off 16 employees in the last week, another round of staff reductions that prompted its president to reassure students and staff that there’s no truth to a flurry of rumors that the “company” is up for sale or closing.

Sullivan system President Glenn Sullivan told employees that disappointing summer enrollment and the need for the for-profit university to keep expenses in line with revenues drove the layoffs.

But that doesn’t mean the place is going under or on the sale block. “As the great philosopher Justin Timberlake once said, ‘Gossip is called gossip because it’s not always the truth.’ Simply put, we are not planning to sell or close The Sullivan University System or Sullivan University,” according to Glenn Sullivan’s note obtained by the Courier Journal.

The latest reductions come on the heels of layoffs of about 30 more staff in August 2017 and in late March. All told, the university employs 856 staff and faculty now.
