Monroe College Honors Three Exceptional Faculty Members with 2018 W. Jeff Wallis Faculty of Distinction Award
The College Recognized Professors Kathryn Bennett, Dr. Collette Brown, and Keithroy Nanton at a reception on the New Rochelle campus last Friday.
Monroe College, a national leader in educating urban and international students, today announced that faculty members Kathryn Bennett, Dr. Collette Brown, and Keithroy Nanton are the 2018 recipients of the College’s W. Jeff Wallis Faculty of Distinction Award, which celebrates excellence in teaching.
The W. Jeff Wallis Faculty of Distinction Award is presented annually to exceptional faculty members who demonstrate relentless dedication to student achievement, strong professional standards, and a commitment to the College’s core values. The award is named in honor of Dr. Jeff Wallis, a former Vice President of Academics at the College. His dedication to Monroe’s students and passion for continuous improvement in the classroom inspired all who had the privilege to work with him.
“This year’s Faculty of Distinction Award winners are academic standard-bearers. Through their compelling lectures, wonderful connection with their students, and rigorous coursework, they demonstrate the very best qualities in teaching every day and I warmly congratulate them on this most-deserved recognition,” said Marc Jerome, the College’s president.
The award recipients were selected among nominations submitted by fellow faculty members. Among the comments and observations submitted about this year’s nominees:
— Kathryn Bennett (Mathematics Department) joined Monroe in 2007. She was deemed an “outstanding professor” and “amazing colleague” who works tirelessly to ensure that students across the College have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to master math. The frequent “line of students ready for her additional after-class support” was noted as a testament to Professor Bennett’s commitment to student achievement.
— Dr. Collette Brown (School of Allied Health Professions), a member of the faculty since 2002, was nominated for “helping to implement various teaching methods to … (revitalize) science and public health courses” and for “(instilling) her own fortitude, passions, and adaptability in her students.”
— Keithroy Nanton (School of Business and Accounting) was nominated for his strong commitment to “the mission and vision of the School of Business and Accounting” as evidenced by his “flexibility teaching a variety of challenging courses during the day, evening, and weekends.” His rigorous schedule often “puts the needs of (the College) and students ahead of his own.” He joined Monroe’s faculty in 2004.
The W. Jeff Wallis Faculty of Distinction Award recipients were announced at a faculty reception held on the New Rochelle campus. In addition to honoring this year’s award-winners, the event served as a professional development workshop and broader celebration of the work that the College’s nearly 350 faculty members do every day to improve students’ lives through education.
