A business, technical and trade school with two City of Poughkeepsie locations permanently closed due to “severe financial and operational challenges,” according to its president.

“With the heaviest of hearts, we are sad to announce that Ridley-Lowell Business & Technical Institute is permanently closed effective immediately,” said owner and President Terry Weymouth, in a notice to students. “All future classes and programs are cancelled and Ridley-Lowell campuses are now closed.”

The private, for-profit college, offered programs ranging from medical billing and coding to health and beauty.

Weymouth, who has owned the schools for decades, told the Poughkeepsie Journal that he knew the schools would have to close Tuesday, a day before the announcement was made.

“We thought we had a buyer, and then we find out we don’t have a buyer,” Weymouth said.
