On Wednesday, November 8, Northwestern College’s Bridgeview Campus (7725 S. Harlem Avenue) opened its doors to the community and hosted its Fall Blood Drive. Students, faculty, staff and members of the public all participated in the five (5) hour event facilitated by LifeSource and sponsored by the College’s Medical Assisting Department. Each donor received a free patriotic t-shirt, in addition to a Free Small Sub from Firehouse Subs as a token of gratitude.

This fall’s blood drive yielded twenty-one (21) pints of blood. According to LifeSource, every pint of blood donated potentially saves three lives, thus Northwestern College’s fall blood drive could touch the lives of up to 63 people! Nearly thirty-five donors in total came forward to participate, though not every interested donor was able to donate. It is common for donors to be deferred for medical reasons, weight requirements, or due to recent travel outside of the country.

Our communities are always in need of blood, and Northwestern College makes it a consistent priority to step up multiple times a year to open its doors for this worthy cause.

Special thanks to Medical Assisting Program Coordinator Alan Cwidak-Mosley for his time and effort in organizing this fall’s blood drive, facilitated in conjunction with LifeSource. Additional thanks go out to our Medical Assisting students, as well as the many other Northwestern College students that participated throughout the course of the event.
