The owner of now-shuttered Career Point Colleges has settled allegations that he and the school’s parent company pocketed millions in improper payments — some of it to support his lifestyle — from federal student aid programs.

Career Point founder Lawrence Earle used the college and its parent company Edudyne Systems Inc. as a “sham” and as “part of as scheme to defraud creditors,” according to a lawsuit filed by a bankruptcy trustee earlier this year.

The for-profit Career Point, which was based in San Antonio but also had campuses in Austin and Tulsa, Okla., abruptly shut down in October 2016. The school, which operated locally at Wonderland of Americas mall, may have been best-known for its nursing program.
