Confirmed by New York State Senate to Six-Year Term at the Higher Education Services Corporation
Monroe College, a national leader in educating urban and international students, today announced that Marc Jerome, president of the College, was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) following confirmation yesterday by the New York State Senate.
The Higher Education Services Corporation, commonly known by its acronym HESC, is New York State’s financial aid agency for college-bound students. It administers the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), as well as state scholarship and loan forgiveness programs and the 529 College Savings Program, among others, to help make college more affordable for New York students and their families.
“HESC plays a vital role in helping New York State families afford their college dreams, and I am proud and honored to be appointed to the Board of Trustees to help them deliver on their mission,” said Mr. Jerome. “I have dedicated my career to improving college access, affordability, and attainment, and to making the college experience more student-centric and customer service-oriented. I look forward to expanding on that work with HESC.”
In addition to his role as educator, Mr. Jerome is a recognized expert on the impact of higher education policy on underrepresented student populations and an advocate for students’ interests in Albany and Washington, DC. He has shared his perspectives on higher education policy and regulatory design with the White House, the Department of Education, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and NASFAA, among others, and provided counsel on fair and balanced solutions to achieve desired outcomes.
Mr. Jerome was nominated to HESC’s Board of Trustees by New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. He was subsequently confirmed on June 19 by the New York State Senate. He was appointed for a six-year term.
Mr. Jerome has played an integral role in leading Monroe College for more than two decades, serving as Executive Vice President for 22 years prior to his elevation to president in January 2017. Additionally, he has served as Chair of the New Rochelle Business Improvement District since 1999. For 10 years, he was the Chair of the Alumni Relations Committee at the Dwight Englewood School in Englewood, NJ, and is a Board member of the Westchester County Association, as well as the Association of Proprietary Colleges.
Mr. Jerome graduated magna cum laude from Tufts University with a degree in Political Science; he earned his juris doctor degree at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He and his wife, Helen, have three daughters.
