Collaboration with Futuro Health and Other Community Partners Provides Added Tools for Frontline Healthcare Professionals

San Marcos, Calif. (April 13, 2020) – Pima Medical Institute has produced a COVID-19/Pandemic Readiness training video series for hospitals and healthcare professionals across the country. The video series is part of a collaborative effort with Futuro Health, Kaiser Permanente, SEIU-UHW and The Education Fund. The new online course geared toward Licensed Vocational Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses (LVN/LPNs) will be beneficial to all allied healthcare workers.

In just a matter of days, the team at Pima Medical Institute was able to draw on its expertise, faculty and staff to create and complete the instructional modules.

Pima Medical Institute Corporate Director of Education Jen Spurlin spearheaded the project. A registered respiratory therapist herself; she saw this as an opportunity to support her colleagues, graduates and community.

“It’s heartbreaking to hear that your graduates and colleagues are struggling during this crisis and to have a way to support them is extremely gratifying,” Spurlin said. “Many of our graduates are on the front lines and these are communities we all call home. Giving back is a guiding principle here at Pima Medical and I think this training series is just one more example of our commitment.”

The willingness and ability to pivot quickly made Pima Medical an ideal partner for Futuro Health.

“We’ve been very impressed with Pima Medical’s quality and turnaround which has enabled us to deliver pandemic readiness training in time helpful to the pandemic,” states Van Ton-Quinlivan, CEO of Futuro Health. “We look forward to continuing this partnership as we tackle the immense shortage in allied health workers in the nation.”

While these instructional modules launched in California, they are available to anyone, anywhere who might have a need. And, they are offered free of charge. Those interested in the training modules can go to pmi.edu/covid19training.

Instructional modules include Screening & Testing, Infection Control & PPE, Ventilator Management and Resilience & Stress Management for Healthcare Professional and Patients And Transitioning from Sub-acute to Acute Setting.

“These modules are about providing additional resources to our healthcare professionals’ toolboxes,” added Spurlin. “Our goal is that anyone who reviews the modules walks away feeling more confident caring for COVID-19 patients.”
