The 2-year for-profit trade school stopped enrolling new students in July and said current students can graduate.

Fortis Institute in Erie is closing its program for dental hygienists nearly a year after the two-year for-profit trade and career school stopped enrolling new students in all its programs.

Fortis in Erie announced it is discontinuing its dental hygiene program in a legal advertisement published in the Erie Times-News on Wednesday.

The program “will be closing and no longer will be accepting patients for the Dental Hygiene Clinic,” according to the ad. The ad notifies patients that they have until June 14 to obtain their records to forward them to a dentist.

The president of Fortis in Erie, Brian Parker, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A spokesman for Fortis’ parent company, the Baltimore-based Education Affiliates, did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Fortis in Erie is one of more than 40 for-profit colleges and institutes that Fortis operates throughout the United States under Education Affiliates.
