While Steve Gunderson is retiring as president and CEO of Career Education Colleges and Universities, the former Republican Congressman is optimistic that the sector is ready to produce the graduates needed by the country to fill occupations now in demand due, in part, to the pandemic. But he’s also a realist about the challenges the new Democratic presidency could create.
Sector Leaders Pay Tribute to Steve Gunderson
There is no doubt that Steve Gunderson, the former state legislator and U.S. Congressman who went on to lead the Career Education Colleges and Universities, has left his legacy on the career college sector. But he has also made an impact on those who work in that sector, and they have plenty of stories to tell as Steve begins his retirement.

On November 12, 2014, Carol passed away. In recognition of her more than 20 years of dedication to the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools and higher education we celebrate Carol’s life. The following are comments from colleagues and friends.
In 1987, when Scott was 24, he took over the operations of two 100-year-old business colleges in Nebraska that were struggling. Scott knew how to identify, hire and develop people that would make students and the college more successful. Scott had a level of maturity I had never seen in someone his age. His professionalism, management, and leadership skills transformed our colleges.
