Pima Medical Institute’s Phoenix Campus Director, Stacey Nottingham, Named President of the Arizona Private School Association
PHOENIX (June 11, 2021) – Pima Medical Institute’s Stacey Nottingham has been voted president of the Arizona Private School Association (APSA). Nottingham is the Director of the Phoenix Campus. She takes over the role, after Dr. Joel Kostman, Campus Director for Pima Medical Institute’s Mesa Campus. This is the first time in the 54-year history of the association that representatives from the same organization have served as president in back-to-back years.
The opportunity to retain the continuity of culture, thought process and like-mindedness, combined with a smart, engaged and inclusive leader from the same school group is something APSA finds beneficial.
“It becomes a relay race passing the baton without losing momentum,” said Fred Lockhart, Executive Director, Arizona Private School Association. “Pima Medial Institute incubates smart leaders and continues to serve as an exemplar of a school group that knows the benefits of participation and belonging to the Arizona Private School Association.”
Kostman passes the gavel after serving an additional term to guide the association through the pandemic. Something no one was expecting. APSA, like many organizations was forced to pivot, and was still able to deliver for its membership. Under Kostman’s leadership, with expenses and staffing greatly reduced, the association was still able to work to get two critical pieces of legislation signed into law by Governor Ducey this session.
“It was an honor to work with a board throughout such an unprecedented time and be part of a team that ensured that the organization would not just survive, but flourish,” said Kostman. “The ability to maintain a hardworking, robust board was a significant accomplishment. We never had to cancel an APSA Board meeting during this two-year term of office – not even during the pandemic.”
While not fully “post pandemic,” Nottingham says she is up to the task and has big plans as she takes over the role. She says the biggest challenge will be physically re-engaging with the association – member schools and associate members. Nottingham also recognizes that this role is not a solo endeavor.
“My philosophy is that there is power in numbers, said Nottingham. “Together we can, became a mantra for many throughout the pandemic. This same philosophy has been passed from president to president, and our board has worked hard to ensure our mission did not falter. With APSA, it has always been the mantra and will continue to be. I look forward to bringing the sense of community back to the beautiful legacy that has been built over decades. Now more than ever we need to focus our efforts on delivering quality vocational training to the next generation of the workforce.”
Nottingham added, “It is exciting to join the ranks of those that have come before me. I look forward to the camaraderie that the association has built over many decades and I am honored to serve alongside those who share my unbridled passion for education. In addition, serving on the APSA board is an above and beyond commitment outside of respective campus director duties. I am grateful that Pima Medical Institute has allowed both Dr. Kostman and me the ability to be a significant part of The Arizona Private School Association.”
