Where Kamala Harris Stands On Free College, Student Loan Forgiveness, And Teacher Pay – Forbes
Former Vice President Joe Biden made the historic decision to select Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate. Some may have paid close attention to her presidential campaign, but other may wonder where she stands on important issues.
Here are some of her positions relating to education.
Free College
During her campaign for president, Harris said she would make community college free and four-year public college debt-free. She didn’t spell out the specifics of how she would accomplish that and she didn’t sign onto Bernie Sanders’ campaign proposal to eliminate tuition at public colleges. But not long after entering the race, she backed Senator Brian Schatz’s 2019 Debt-Free College Act.
Student Loan Forgiveness
Senator Harris did not support broad student loan forgiveness plans during her presidential campaign, though she had a targeted loan forgiveness proposal for student borrowers who started businesses in low-income areas.
