College Enrollment Declined Again In Spring 2020, Establishing The New Pre-Pandemic Baseline. – Forbes

Here are some highlights.

Sector

All sectors of higher education saw enrollment decreases in the spring. Based on percentages, the largest drop was at public two-year colleges (-2.3%), followed by private for-profit four-years (-1.9%). Enrollments were off .7% at private non-profit universities, and public four-years saw the smallest percentage decrease, at.6%.

Public sector enrollments (two- and four-year colleges combined) which account for nearly three-quarters of all postsecondary students, fell by 1.3% or 163,964 students, compared to 1.9% or 244,376 students reported last year.

Program Level

Enrollment in associate degree programs declined by 2%, while bachelor’s degree enrollments slipped by .5%. Graduate and first-professional degree enrollments were down only .1%, but that was the first decrease in graduate/first professional headcount in three years.
