The Medical Administrative Assistant certificate program is now available at Pima Medical Institute’s Mesa Campus

Medical administrative assistants greet patients, manage electronic health records and ensure the office operates efficiently while also fostering a friendly and positive patient experience. Medical administrative assistants are not directly involved with patient care. Instead, they play an important role by greeting patients, triaging appointments and providing additional assistance where needed.

Students graduating from this program will be prepared to work with electronic health records and current software technologies. Graduates will be able to verify medical insurance, perform medical billing and coding tasks, prepare correspondence, triage appointments and assist physicians with reports, articles and conference proceedings.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of medical administrative assistants is projected to grow 22 percent by 2026, much faster than the average of other occupations.

Campuses that offer the Medical Administrative Assistant include Albuquerque and Albuquerque West in New Mexico, Colorado Springs, Aurora and Denver, Colorado, Chula Vista and San Marcos, California, El Paso, Houston and San Antonio Texas, Mesa, East Valley, Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Renton and Seattle, Washington.
