Tulsa, Oklahoma, August 12th, 2019 – Community Care College has been chosen by the Oklahoma Medical Assistants Society to host their semiannual Educational Conference. This event will take place on Saturday, August 24th, 2019 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

MA-Educational-Conference“This is a great opportunity for our students to meet other medical assistants in the area. All credentialed medical assistants are required to earn continuing education units (CEUs) to keep their license current. We are excited to host this event and we look forward to all of the new and old faces it will bring to our campus,” said Julie Benson, Community Care College Medical Assistant Department Head and Instructor.

To maintain their CMA (AAMA) certification, each medical assistant must earn 60 CEUs in a 5-year period of time. If a medical assistant does not earn 60 CEUs, they will be required to retake and pass their CMA (AAMA) exam.

“I’ve taught medical assisting for 26 years and I understand how important it is to earn your CEUs. If you were to attend these sessions over the five years, you would earn enough CEUs to meet the requirements and you wouldn’t have to test again to renew your certification. Student MAs attending other colleges/programs and graduate medical assistants are also welcome and encouraged to attend this educational conference,” said Benson.

The Oklahoma Medical Assistant Society (OMAS) proudly supports the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) as the professional organization for medical assistants. Founded in 1956, the AAMA is the only medical assistant organization to receive official commendation by the American Medical Association (AMA). The mission of the OMAS is to provide opportunities for continuing education, professional networking, medical assistant employment listings, and healthcare events and/or new related information to its members.

Medical Assistant students at Community Care College are trained in the areas of phlebotomy, ECG’s, bacterial culture growth and evaluation, pulmonary function tests, autoclave usage, assisting in Minor Surgical procedures, capillary blood collections, CLIA-waived lab tests, and more.
