During the 75th year anniversary of The GI Bill, certain politicians seek to use a loophole to restrict for-profit schools from being an option for veterans

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the GI Bill, an earned benefit that many military veterans use to gain education and job training to transition into the civilian workforce. I am proud to have earned the GI Bill and used this benefit to gain job training at Fortis Institute in Cookeville, Tennessee

I am disappointed to learn that some politicians want to limit the ability of veterans to use their earned GI Bill at career schools like the one I attended.

The critics of career schools want to manipulate a formula known as 90/10 to restrict how much GI Bill dollars go to these schools. This makes no sense. If a career school is doing a good job of educating veterans, taking away the right of veterans to gain job-ready skills at the school of their choice only hurts a veteran’s ability to successfully transition into civilian life.

Politicians must understand that not every veteran wants to attend a public university. In fact, many of us—including myself—found the traditional college experience to be a bad fit.
