The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake has been helping youth in the area since 1967. Their primary focus is offering positive alternatives to children who may be surrounded by negative influences. “These laptops will be used by our staff and our children, so it’s fantastic,” says Carrie Francis, Vice President of Operations for the Boy & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake. “We’re just so grateful for this donation.”

Building off of IU’s mission to enrich the educational experience of all people by making technology more accessible, these laptops will help the Clubs in their mission to teach youth how to live successful and productive lives. Joseph Dunlop, the

Associate Campus Director for Independence University, says the donation falls right in line with IU’s purpose. “We want to help as many people become independent through education or through organizations who sponsor individuals to help them become independent,” says Dunlop.

The donated laptops were formerly used by IU students, and most are less than a year old. They’ve been wiped clean and come with the Windows 10 operating system. IU is upgrading their students’ technology, allowing them to make this kind of laptop donations to organizations in the community.

The donation took place on July 18, 2019, at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salt Lake’s headquarters in Murray, Utah.
