[Bridgeville, IL] Northwestern College’s spring 2019 Career Fair for students, graduates and the community was a resounding success. A total of 38 recruiters attended the May 16 event, seeking to hire for over 95 open positions. Approximately 280 job seekers participated, including over 250 Northwestern College students and alumni and another 30 attendees from the community.

Graduates and jobseekers at Northwestern College’s Healthcare Career Fair lined up to speak with a representative of Northwestern Medicine about potential employment.

The employers that participated had an overwhelmingly positive opinion of the event, with one employer asking the College to scan nearly 25 job applications to her boss so they could start the interviewing process immediately.

In advance of the event, Northwestern College worked with its graduating students to ensure they were prepared to present themselves to employers. Workshops on resume building and interview skills were conducted, mock interview events were hosted, and a fashion show was also featured in order to impress upon the students the Do’s and Don’ts of what to wear for a job interview. Employers responded favorably, with 100% of the post-event surveys replying that the event either exceeded or met their expectations, and that they would participate at future career fairs conducted by the College.

One returning employer from previous fairs commented how they always get “great Medical Assistants” from Northwestern College’s career fairs, while another noted that they had received numerous resumes from new Nursing graduates that day, “and they look great.”

The College finds that graduating students are significantly benefited when employers are brought to the campus, allowing them to interview for open positions in a familiar environment they are accustomed to. This beneficial opportunity helps reduce the time it can take for a typical graduate to transition from the classroom and into career-related jobs. Having multiple employers in one place during one morning benefits not only the job-seeking graduates and community members, but also the employers who have the opportunity to interview multiple candidates for positions in a short span of time, all at one location.

Businesses that took part in the 2019 Healthcare Career Fair included: Sahara Home Care; Alivio Medical Center; HealthAdvocates; Clearbrook; UroPartners, LLC; Timberline Knolls Rehab; BrightStar Care of Tinley Park/Oak Lawn; American Home Health; Advocate Health Care; Aunt Martha’s Health & Wellness; Roseland Community Hospital; Grove of LaGrange Park; Everest Health Solutions; The RoomPlace; TruBlu Dentistry; All-Stat Portable; Homewatch Caregivers; St. Paul’s House; Little Company of Mary Hospital; Northwestern Medicine; Palos Health; Astra Health; Aspen Dental; Everest Care Group (Mayfield, Beacon and Uptown Care Centers); UPS; and Symphony Post-Acute Network.

Two other employers made separate arrangements to meet with Northwestern College graduates and alumni, so did not participate in the career fair on May 16. Loyola Medicine is now scheduled to be on the College’s Bridgeview Campus this week, while Physicians Immediate Care will be on the Campus sometime in June.

The success of this career fair is due to the tremendous efforts of Northwestern College’s Career Development & Alumni Relations Department. In addition, numerous Northwestern College staff, program coordinators, and other volunteers were thanked for the assistance they provided to help make the event a success. Thanks to these efforts, employers commented on how well-organized the event was, and particularly, how much they appreciated the customer service provided by the volunteers who met them at the door upon their arrival, then assisted them to their assigned tables.

Northwestern College’s next career fair will be held in the late fall of 2019.
