One day Dan Patrick will retire from radio and television, but don’t think that he has plans to walk away from the sportscasting industry entirely.

Year in, and year out thousands will look for a job in sports. Whether it’s the Baseball Winter Meetings, hanging around the NBA Summer League or NFL Combine, you’ll see those just out of college or those looking to start a new career pushing resumes. Few land jobs and those that do often land entry-level positions. In a few years, if they’re lucky, they may land with a major league team.

If that sounds daunting, try landing a job as a sportscaster. You might dream of being on ESPN, but you’re probably in better shape to win the lottery without experience. And that’s the Catch-22: you need experience to land a position as a sportscaster but getting experience without actually doing sportscasting work is a huge mountain to climb.
