Former Argosy University students and staff spoke before a legislative committee at the Minnesota State Capitol Wednesday, offering emotional testimony following the closure of the “for-profit” college.

Last month, the school announced it was shutting down its Eagan campus with little notice.

But new legislation would give the Minnesota Office of Higher Education the authority to release Argosy students from liability for any state self-student loans for the current spring semester, and would pay them directly for other state financial aid.

“It’s my hope that something can be done because these schools need to be held accountable for the devastation they’ve put on the students and faculty,” said Rep. Mary Franson, R-Alexandria.
