A bipartisan group of U.S. senators has reintroduced a bill that would provide grants to support partnerships between two-year colleges and work-force boards, industry groups and nonprofit organizations. The grants would be directed toward underemployed and unemployed people and would be designed to strengthen job training and career pathways with support for housing, mental and substance use disorder treatment, health insurance coverage, career counseling, childcare, transportation, and guidance in accessing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The senators are pushing for the bill to be included in the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
