Tulsa, Oklahoma, February 12th, 2019 – The Veterinary Assistant students at Community Care College will volunteer with the Meals on Wheels PawStarz Program on Tuesday, February 12th, 2019. The PawStarz Program provides pet food delivery to homebound pet owners who also receive service from the Meals on Wheels program. Students will be packaging food for this program at Guts Church in Broken Arrow.

“The Veterinary Assistant program at CCC does a monthly service project in keeping with our CARES culture in doing service for our community. The students package pet food for the Meals on Wheels PawStarz Program which provides dog and cat food to homebound individuals receiving meals from the Meals on Wheels organization. Helping these pets in need teaches our students that all animals are in our care and deserve the right to be free from hunger,” commented Dr. Lisette Wigton, Veterinary Assistant Department Head at Community Care College.

The Veterinary Assistant students at Community Care College have been volunteering with the PawStarz Program for years and will continue to do so throughout 2019. This volunteering event occurs every month on the Tuesday before the Meals on Wheels delivery day.

Veterinary Assistant students at Community Care College are trained in all areas of animal care such as restraint, surgical assisting, nutrition and lab techniques. Students learn how to care for a variety of animal species while also learning effective methods of working with their owners. Before graduation, all students complete an off-site externship at a clinic or animal care facility of their choosing. This externship gives them critical experience and a realistic view of the everyday life of a veterinary assistant.
