community care college students“The Veterinary Assistant program at CCC does a monthly service project in keeping with our CARES culture in doing service for our community. The students package pet food for the Meals on Wheels Paw Starz program which provides dog and cat food to homebound individuals receiving meals from the Meals on Wheels organization. Helping these pets in need teaches our students that all animals are in our care and deserve the right to be free from hunger,” commented Dr. Lisette Wigton, Veterinary Assistant Department Head at Community Care College.

The Veterinary Assistant students will continue to spend their time volunteering with the Paw Starz program. This event will occur once a month, every month. The students have already booked dates to volunteer with this program through January.

community care college studentsVeterinary Assistant students at Community Care College are trained in animal care techniques such as restraint, surgical assisting, radiology, and dentistry. Students learn how to care for a variety of animal species while also learning effective methods of working with their owners. Before graduation, all students complete an off-site externship at a clinic or animal care facility of their choosing. This externship gives them critical experience and a realistic view of the everyday life of a veterinary assistant.
