Northwestern College drew its highest turnout of job seekers at last week’s 2018 Healthcare Career Fair. A total of 318 job seekers attended the May 24 event at the College’s Bridgeview Campus, a 27% increase to its November career fair outcome and a 21% increase to the same event held last May. The College was pleased to report that one employer collected over 40 job applications for open positions that morning, and that a number of applicants were hired on the spot by other employers!

Of the 318 attendees that participated, 302 were Northwestern College students and alumni, with the remaining 16 being job-seeking members of the public.

Northwestern College further reported that 32 recruiters attended, representing 24 local and Chicagoland businesses and employers. The majority commented in post-event surveys on how well-attended it was, and further, that they would be interested in attending future career fairs at the College. Some employers scheduled interviews for this week and next with interested applicants, thereby extending the event’s benefits beyond a single morning’s opportunities.

Nearly all of the recruiters at the May career fair represented the healthcare industry. Today, 85% of Northwestern College’s program offerings involve health-related fields, including its Violet L Schumacher School of Nursing that opened in 2010 at the Bridgeview Campus. Consequently, the College recently determined that its career fairs would primarily involve employers of the healthcare industry. Northwestern College will also continue to host two career fairs a year, one at the end of the spring quarter in May, and the second at the end of the fall quarter in November.

Northwestern College would like to recognize and thank the businesses and employers that took part in the May 2018 Healthcare Career Fair, including: Palos Health; All STAT Portable X-Ray; BrightStar Care of Tinley Park; Advocate Health Care; Decision One Dental; Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center; American Home Health; Homewatch Care Givers; Keys Medical Staffing; Uro Partners LLC; Medix Staffing; MiraMed Revenue Group; HealthAdvocates; Everest Healthcare Solutions, Inc.; FirstSynch; Physicians Immediate Care; Aunt Martha’s Health & Wellness; Haymarket Center; LifeSource Blood Center; Loyola University Health System; Sahara Asian Elderly Care; UPS; Midamerica Orthopaedics; and Mercy Hospital & Medical Center. Additional employers that were unable to attend the event have scheduled time to visit the campuses and meet with interested students at alternative dates.

“Getting a good education is just step one to building a strong foundation for a successful career,” commented Lawrence Schumacher, President of Northwestern College. “Getting that first job after graduation is the second step. We are excited to have been able to provide access to so many prominent Chicagoland businesses, hospitals, and medical facilities at this spring healthcare career fair. We are hopeful that these connections will lead to full-time employment opportunities for our Northwestern College graduates and members of the Bridgeview community!”

The success of the career fair would not have been possible without the efforts of Northwestern College’s Career Development & Alumni Relations staff and Coordinator Amy Buoscio.
